The calcium in your saliva helps to keep your teeth strong. Sugarless gum can be especially effective if chewed for approximately 20 minutes after eating.
Ideally, you should look for sugarless gum that carries the Seal of Acceptance by the American Dental Association. If you can’t find ADA-approved gum, talk with your dentist and see what he recommends.
While sugarless gum can help you in the fight against tooth decay, it does not replace proper oral hygiene. You should still brush twice a day and floss before bed, and you should always see your dentist for regular cleanings and exams.
