You know that choosing healthy foods can help your body stay healthy and strong. Similarly, you may know that choosing the right foods can help you keep your teeth healthy and strong, and that choosing the wrong foods could damage your teeth. It is true that certain foods can crack your teeth, but do you know which foods you should avoid?
There are several foods that can crack your teeth. Would you be surprised to learn that popcorn is one of the foods that are most likely to crack your teeth? Now, popped popcorn probably won’t damage your smile, but if you unknowingly chomp down on a kernel, you could easily damage your teeth.
Similarly, did you know that bread can actually crack or chip your teeth? Soft breads are fine, but hard breads, such as baguettes, biscotti, or pretzels, are more dangerous. If you are eating these foods, please remember to take small bites to protect your teeth. Finally, please also be weary of hard candies and nuts. Aside from leaving residues that stick to your teeth where they could cause decay, hard candies may hurt your teeth if you decide to chew on them. Nuts can also cause problems, especially if they have hard shells.
If you crack your tooth, we recommend visiting our team as soon as possible. You see, if your teeth are cracked and the issue isn’t addressed, you could be leaving your mouth more vulnerable to infection and varying forms of tooth decay. Please note that if you damage your tooth, it won’t heal on its own. If you’re interested in learning more, or if you’d like to schedule an appointment with our dentist, Dr. M. W.
