Sometimes children hate brushing their teeth so much that they actually pretend to brush to get out of it. This can cause severe damage to the teeth and gums, especially because it can quickly encourage tooth decay development. So, it’s important to make sure your child brushes their chompers every morning and every night. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. M. W. McConnell, and dental team have some helpful tips.
Our first tip is to keep the bathroom door open when your child brushes. If you keep the bathroom door open, it’s much harder for your child to fake brushing. This is because they will feel like they can be caught at any second. So, make sure they keep the door open as they brush their smile.
Our second tip is to have your child sing while they scrub. This is a great way to make sure your child is brushing because it’s almost impossible to sing and brush at the same time. When your child sings, their words should be muffled and inaudible. This is a good way to tell if they are brushing. If they aren’t, go into the bathroom and catch them in the act.
Our third tip is to brush when your child brushes. This is an easy tip that ensures a proper and thorough brushing routine. If you brush while your child brushes, your child won’t be able to escape your gaze and pretend to brush. While you’re brushing together, try to have fun so your child enjoys oral hygiene a little more.
